ARK launch

After 12 weeks of meeting up regularly on a Wednesday we (me, Simon and Lynsey) finally launched ARK. We were hoping for around 15 people for the event. We were planning to give people an idea of how ARK works and the issues it hope's to address. In the end we had around 25 which is great. There are some more photos on my flickr account and also a few on SImon's as well. Finally I would like to thank ATRiuM - University of Glamorgan for letting us use there foyer for the event. Also for attic 2, Hoffi and EcoDesign Centre for allowing us to put a bit of time into the project.

Do Lectures

I came across this flickr presentation about the Do Lectures via howies blog. Over the last few years with my involvement with Cardiff Design Festival it is so obviously about people who get things done and go beyond talking. Through our (Hoffi) work with the Design Festival we setup up www.nakedwales.com to try and drive art + design community and also bring exposure to those who want to put the effort in. It is still early days with the site but hopefully it will develop and grow. Ultimately though it is up to the community to make it what they want.

In the air

I was tweeting earlier today about how people are doing things at the same time and are in no way related. I hope to write abit more about this in a later blog but could not resist posting this up today, we got the latest design week in the post and Andrew is working on the new colours for the Cardiff Design Festival.

Capitol Shopping Centre Cardiff

Came across some of the Cardiff Design Festival boards at Capitol Shopping Centre today, was shocked to see them but happy to see that two of our pieces are getting a bit of free advertising, they are the branding for Academi's Book of the Year awards and also the branding for fruit smoothie company SoBor.

Cardiff Design Festival 2008 Launch

Well all of the hard work has paid off. We got all of the boards produced on time and the Festival Launched last evening at the Senedd. It was really well attended by most of the design community of Cardiff. The exhibition also had an added dimension this year in some cases with the real items being show alongside flat work. With the new addition it gave you more understanding of the products and projects.

For us personally it was also really nice to see some of our work displayed. We were on the boards with our work for Sobor fruit smoothies and also the Academi's Book of the Year award. We also managed to get some of our work for cfar - centre for fine art research onto the tables.

Cardiff Design Festival 2008 - NakedWales launch

So the Festival is just round the corner and we are busy producing the exhibition for the festival as well as this though we are also arranging a get together for the design community through the NakedWales website that we run. We are looking at Tuesday 14th in the Bay somewhere. We should have all the details confirmed tomorrow so look out for your invitation by email of course.

On another note we are hoping this years festival will be bigger and better than ever, so look out for some other the other events such as the Ball at the end which is sounding very intriguing.

Cardiff Design Festival 2008 update

It is still some months away but plans are already afoot for the 2008 Cardiff Design Festival. As previously discussed we (Hoffi) will once again be working with the festival on all of the marketing for the Festival, as well as this we are delighted to announce that we are going to be working with Sequence on the launch of a brand new website which should be launched in the early weeks of September. We are very pleased that we will be working with Sequence this year and we are sure that through this we will be able to further broaden the reach of the Festival. Through our own work with NakedWales (www.nakedwales.com) it has always been central to our companies ethos to try and bring collaborations into design within Cardiff and so it is a great opportunity to work alongside such a well respected company. We are looking into some exciting additions to the site which we all hope will allow a broad design voice to be heard.

The next step for the Festival will be submissions to the Festival showcase. The call should be in early July and then after the selection and judging process has taken place the new website should launch with the 2008 showcase. We will keep you up to date as soon as possible.
